Saudi Aramco Shuts Ras Tanura Refinery Following Drone Debris Fire

Saudi Aramco halts Ras Tanura refinery after drone debris fire, affecting global oil supply amid Middle East tensions.

Saudi Aramco closed its key Ras Tanura facility, which processes 550,000 barrels per day and exports up to 6.5 million barrels daily—nearly 7% of global supply—after intercepting two Iranian drones whose debris caused a contained fire with no injuries.

The incident followed U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on February 28 targeting Iran’s nuclear sites and leadership, prompting Tehran’s missile and drone retaliation across the Gulf, including hits on Bahrain, Qatar, and the UAE.

Brent crude surged 10% above $80 a barrel Monday, with unverified social media claims of wider destruction debunked by fact-checks, as world leaders call for de-escalation amid risks to oil shipping.
