Saudi Arabia Refuses Airspace Access for Attacks on Iran
Tensions Rise as US-Iran Standoff Intensifies Amid Crackdown on Protests
RIYADHL (Web Desk) – Iran’s president has warned that US threats against the Islamic Republic would only destabilize the region, as a US naval strike group led by the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln takes position in Middle Eastern waters. Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, has stated that it will not allow its territory or airspace to be used for any military action against Iran.
Washington has not ruled out military intervention in response to Iran’s recent crackdown on protests, which human rights groups say has left thousands dead. US President Donald Trump deployed the aircraft carrier to the region as a precaution.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned US threats in a call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, saying they were aimed at undermining regional security and would only create instability. A Revolutionary Guards naval commander warned that any use of neighboring countries’ soil, airspace, or waters against Iran would be considered hostile.
Saudi Arabia assured Iran that it would not allow its territory to be used for attacks, according to the foreign ministry. Despite the tensions, Iran maintains communication channels with the US through Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and envoy Steve Witkoff.
Iran Shuts Airspace, Launches Hormuz Drills Amid US Tensions
Reports indicate that US intelligence views Iran’s government as increasingly fragile, with some officials suggesting the regime is at its weakest point since the 1979 revolution. US Senator Lindsey Graham told The New York Times that ending the regime remains a key objective, citing ongoing violence against protesters.
The recent protests, marked by an extensive internet blackout, have been described as the deadliest in Iran’s history. Human rights groups report over 6,100 confirmed deaths, including protesters, minors, security personnel, and bystanders, with tens of thousands more arrested. HRANA warns that the real toll could be much higher and ongoing arrests, intimidation, and narrative control continue.
Amid rising tensions, Iran has threatened to respond forcefully to any military incursion, including potential control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil transit route. Anti-US imagery has also appeared in Tehran, underscoring public anger over foreign threats.
