Sanam Marvi slams trolling over Umrah, Karbala visits
She said critics unfairly link her spiritual activities with her career in music.
ISLAMABAD: Renowned folk and Sufi singer Sanam Marvi has expressed frustration over the constant trolling she faces whenever she performs religious pilgrimages like Umrah or visits Karbala.
She said critics unfairly link her spiritual activities with her career in music.
Appearing at private news channel show opened up about her personal life, career, and the persistent criticism that follows her.
She revealed that whenever she travels for Umrah or to Karbala, people taunt her with remarks such as, “Now you will also perform Umrah?” or, upon her return, “You have just come from Karbala or Umrah, and now you are singing again.”
Music as a profession, faith as a personal choice
Marvi stressed that singing is her profession and not a reflection of her spiritual devotion.
“We are human beings too. Our hearts also desire to perform pilgrimage and seek blessings,” she said. “Just because I sing doesn’t mean I should be stopped from worshipping.”
The singer shared that most of this criticism stems from social media users who view music and religious practice as incompatible. She urged people to stop making unfair judgments based on her profession and respect the personal faith of artists.
