
Sahiwal farmers face severe losses after river flooding
Thousands evacuated as historic floods threaten homes and destroy vital crops across the region.
Punjab – (Special Correspondent / Web Desk) – Local leaders issued high alerts, using mosque loudspeakers to warn people to leave the riverbanks. Over 1,000 people were moved to safety.
The floodwaters have ruined key crops like rice, maize, and potatoes. Officials say this is the worst flooding since 1988.
Old river walls have broken or are in danger of falling. People are trying to fix them, but they need big machines to help.
In Pakpattan, the flood damaged over 13,000 acres of farmland and 24 villages. Rescue teams have safely evacuated 17,000 people in the last day. Thankfully, no people or animals have been lost.

The flooding also eroded land on the Ravi River’s left bank, affecting hundreds more acres. Officials warn that if water levels rise, 45 more villages could be in danger.
More than 15 emergency camps are now open to provide aid and shelter, especially for women and children. Local hospitals are also ready with medicines and snakebite vaccines.
