PPP Minister Defends Sindh Amid Political Criticism

KARACHI: (Staff Reporter) – Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani has rejected calls for the creation of a new province in Sindh, stating that there is no requirement for dividing the province.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Ghani said Punjab remains the only province where the assembly has passed a resolution regarding the creation of South Punjab province. He added that the Senate has also approved a resolution with a two-thirds majority on the matter, claiming that people in Punjab support the formation of new administrative units.

Commenting on political issues, Ghani criticized the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), alleging that the party’s electoral victories were linked to irregularities. He claimed that the party faced defeat in the 2024 general elections and referred to the political history of senior PML-N leaders.

The minister also responded to criticism from Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, saying that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had made significant sacrifices for democracy and did not require any endorsement to prove its commitment to democratic values.

Ghani said the PPP had the standing to discuss democracy and highlighted the sacrifices of its leaders and workers for the country’s political system.

Addressing criticism over Sindh’s performance, he said Punjab ministers often highlighted the achievements of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz while overlooking issues under the federal government’s responsibility. He added that matters related to Karachi Port were not solely the responsibility of the Sindh government.

The Sindh minister further stated that his government had no objection to development projects or hospitals being established in Punjab but urged political opponents not to make misleading claims about Sindh.

He praised the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), calling it among the leading heart treatment facilities globally, and said thousands of patients from Punjab had received free medical care there during the past year.
