Sports: SA vs SL: Anrich Nortje shines as Sri Lanka dismissed for 77. Anrich Nortje delivered a sensational bowling performance to lead South Africa to a commanding victory over Sri Lanka in the fourth match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
Nortje’s devastating spell of 4/7 marked the best bowling figures for South Africa in the history of the competition.
Sri Lanka, after winning the toss and opting to bat, crumbled to a paltry total of 77 runs under relentless pressure from the South African bowlers.
The top order collapsed, with opener Pathum Nissanka falling cheaply for just 3 runs, caught by Heinrich Klaasen off Ottneil Baartman. Kusal Mendis provided brief resistance, scoring 19 off 30 balls, before becoming one of Nortje’s four victims.
Kamindu Mendis, contributing only 11 runs, joined the list of batsmen who struggled to find form. The Sri Lankan innings further deteriorated with captain Wanindu Hasaranga and Sadeera Samarawickrama both departing without scoring. Charith Asalanka managed to score 6 runs before Nortje struck again, leaving the team in dire straits.
