Russia urges diplomacy amid escalating Middle East tensions
Moscow pushes political solution as Iran crisis deepens
MOSCOW: (Web Desk) – Russia has called for a political and diplomatic resolution to the ongoing Middle East conflict, following a sharp warning issued by Donald Trump to Iran over the closure of a key global shipping route.
The US president reportedly gave Iran a 48-hour ultimatum to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, warning of severe consequences, including possible attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure if the demand was not met.
Responding to the escalating situation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that diplomacy remains the only viable path forward. He stated that the conflict should shift towards negotiations to reduce tensions that have reached a critical level.
Russia also expressed serious concern over potential strikes on nuclear facilities, particularly the Bushehr nuclear power plant, which it helped construct. Moscow warned that any attack on such sites could have dangerous and possibly irreversible consequences.
The situation around the plant has already raised alarms, with the International Atomic Energy Agency urging restraint to prevent any nuclear accident during the conflict.
