Imran Khan summons party legislators’ meeting on Jan 2,

Lahore: (Staff Reporter) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said the rule of law was imperative to achieve important targets of the country. The former prime minister stated this at a meeting with former inspectors general of the Punjab police.

According to the source, the former top cops also shared their views about reforms in the police and criminal justice system. The PTI chief, while stressing the need for reforms, said the rule of law was a prerequisite for boosting economic activities and investment in the country.

Amid Punjab’s perpetual crisis, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan summoned PTI and PML-Q’s parliamentary party members meeting on January 2.

The deposed premier presided over a meeting attended by former Federal Minister Moonis Elahi and parliamentary party members from the PML-Q and PTI to discuss the number game ahead of the Punjab Assembly s expected dissolution and vote of confidence.

Meanwhile the PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said his party was going to issue a white paper on the country’s economic situation.

Mr Chaudhry said in connection with this decision, PTI Chairman Imran Khan summoned the meeting of the economic experts, adding that in the meeting, the country’s economic situation will be discussed in detail. He added the white paper will be issued by the PTI based on the proposals of the economic experts.

Mr Chaudhry went on to say the PTI had formed the working groups for the basic reforms, which will prepare the proposals on the country’s economy and governance.

“The PTI believed that after getting rid of the current rulers, the country could not get out of the quagmire without the major reforms”, added Mr Chaudhry.

The PTI chief’s comments on the state of terrorism in the country came at a time when the country is yet again witnessing a spate of terror attacks, particularly in the federal capital, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The two provinces have been under the radar of terror outfits. In KP, the state of law and order has remained questionable for the last several weeks with the most recent hostage situation unfolding in Bannu’s  CTD

While Baluchistan witnessed a series of indiscriminate, cross-border attacks and successive bombings encountered a day earlier in which five soldiers were martyred and several others injured in different cities.

Commenting on the state of national security, Imran Khan said: “Leaving national security on the mercy of [Asif] Zardari’s politically-immature son is a criminal stupidity.”

The former premier said that his party is watching the situation closely. “[We] will strongly resist the efforts to expose the nation towards a major disaster,” he said.

Calling out the incumbent government, the ousted PM asked them to go off their ways of benefiting from the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and demanded the announcement of snap polls.

“Only a government with a public mandate will be able to manage the economy,” he said, underlining the serious economic state of the country as indicated by economists.

“I had forewarned about the consequences of the conspiracy imposed on foreign signals. After the economy’s destruction, the nation is asking that on whose behest is internal chaos being fuelled,” the former prime minister said.
