RUDN University Celebrates 66th Anniversary in Lahore

Russian University’s 66-Year Journey Honored in Pakistan

LAHORE: (Web Desk) The 66th anniversary of the world-renowned Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) was celebrated with grandeur under the auspices of the Russian Centre for Science, Education and Culture. The ceremony highlighted the university’s exceptional contributions to education, research, and science, and honored its global alumni network.

The event was presided over by Pushkin Award recipient Dr. Najm-ul-Sahar Butt, with former University Union President Dr. Musaddiq Hussain as chief guest. Key speakers included Dr. Shahid Hasan, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Nizami, Dr. Shahid Latif, Engr. Jamal Anwar, Dr. Fahmeeda Jamal, Dr. Iftikhar Bukhari, Dr. Rashid, Muhammad Asif, and Comrade Shahid Ali.

Speakers lauded RUDN’s legacy of nurturing generations of educators, economists, intellectuals, and professionals who serve worldwide. Dr. Najm-ul-Sahar Butt highlighted the quality and inclusiveness of education and healthcare in the Soviet Union, emphasizing the welcoming attitude toward international students. Dr. Musaddiq Hussain described the university’s 66-year journey as transformative, while Dr. Ashraf Nizami reminded alumni to “acquire knowledge and spread it throughout the world.”

Other alumni reminisced about their memorable experiences studying in Russia. Engr. Jamal Anwar reflected, “If Pakistan is our motherland, then Russia is our fatherland, because it has given us so much.” Dr. Fahmeeda Jamal said the knowledge gained in Russia remains ahead of what is currently available in Pakistan, while Dr. Shahid Hasan, Russian Ambassador for Science and Education in Pakistan, recalled meeting global personalities and the enriching academic environment at RUDN.

The celebration concluded with a ceremonial cake cutting. Distinguished attendees included Professor Iftikhar Rasool Sheikh, Farooq Malik, Madam Natasha Antalia, Honorary Consul of the Kyrgyz Republic in Lahore Kashif Younis Mehr, Tayyab Kakar, Shahbaz Anwar Khan, Muhammad Maqsood, Abdul Mannan, Muhammad Ahmed, Basit Majeed, and others.
