RPO Rawalpindi leaves Pakistan amid rigging allegations

RPO has traveled to the UK with his family for a two-day trip during his leave period.

Rawalpindi: In the wake of recent revelations made by Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha regarding alleged rigging in the elections, Rawalpindi’s Regional Police Officer (RPO), Syed Khurram Ali, has taken a 15-day leave and left Pakistan.

The decision comes a day after Commissioner Chattha accused Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja of complicity in the rigging and called for punitive measures, including the death penalty, for those involved in injustice, including himself.

Chattha disclosed his alleged involvement in election rigging in 13 constituencies of the National Assembly within his division, prompting his subsequent arrest by the police and transfer to an undisclosed location.

Responding to inquiries, a spokesperson for the Punjab police clarified that RPO Rawalpindi had applied for leave prior to the elections. “He went on leave on Feb 16 and will resume his duties on March 2,” the spokesperson stated.
