LAHORE: In a move demonstrating provincial backing for the federal government’s counter-terrorism efforts, a resolution has been submitted to the Punjab Assembly expressing support for “Operation Azm-e-Istehkam.”

The resolution, introduced by Muslim League (N) member Hina Parvez Butt, signifies the Punjab Assembly’s endorsement of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to launch the operation. The text of the resolution specifically welcomes the operation’s approval and offers the Assembly’s full cooperation in its execution.

Beyond mere approval, the resolution underscores national unity in the fight against terrorism. It emphasizes the unwavering support of the Pakistani people, standing “side by side with the Pakistan Armed Forces and the security agencies” to eradicate this persistent threat.

The resolution goes a step further by calling for the full implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP), a comprehensive counter-terrorism strategy formulated in 2015. This signifies the Assembly’s belief that a thorough and sustained approach is necessary to achieve lasting peace and security.

Lahore High Court Receives Report on MPO Orders against 4,770 PTI Workers

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has been presented with comprehensive details of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) orders issued against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers since May 9, 2023.
Chief Secretary Punjab, Zahid Akhtar Zaman, submitted the report detailing the issuance and execution of MPO orders. According to the report, a total of 4,770 individuals have been detained under these orders, with 3,532 MPO orders specifically targeting PTI workers and associates.
The report highlighted that the highest number of MPO orders were issued in Rawalpindi (348), Gujranwala (328), and Lahore (301). The highest number of arrests under these orders occurred in Multan (739), Lahore (642), and Rawalpindi (384). Additionally, many detainees have been released following the withdrawal of some orders.
The submission of these details follows a petition filed by PTI leader Zainab Umar, represented by Advocate Azhar Siddique, seeking clarity on the MPO orders.
