LAHORE: Famous Pakistani stage and television comedian Anwar Ali passed away after a long battle with illness, his family confirmed on Monday.
He had been suffering from lung and kidney problems for an extended period.
According to family sources, Anwar Ali was admitted to a local hospital in Lahore on Sunday after his condition worsened. Despite medical efforts, he could not recover and breathed his last a day later.
Anwar Ali was widely admired for his sharp wit, comic timing, and contribution to Pakistan’s stage theatre as well as television. Over the years, he became a household name, entertaining audiences with his unique style of humour and leaving behind countless memorable performances.

On Aug 8, famous comedian Nasir Chinyoti had requested people to pray for the veteran stage actor. “We kindly request all friends to pray for his speedy recovery and good health. May Allah grant him complete healing and strength. Ameen,” Chinyoti had posted on his official social media account.
A few weeks ago, the renowned actor had been admitted to a private hospital due to his deteriorating health. The 71-year-old actor was suffering from complications related to paralysis and a heart condition. Doctors had at that time confirmed that he was being treated and his condition was stable.
Ali’s son had said that his father was unwell for several months, and his health deteriorated significantly before being hospitalised.
