Remembering Junaid Jamshed on Ninth Death Anniversary
Before dedicating his life to religious work, Junaid Jamshed had a successful music career.
ISLAMABAD: Today, December 7, marks the ninth death anniversary of renowned religious scholar and Naat Khawan Junaid Jamshed.
Born on September 3, 1964, in Karachi, Junaid Jamshed was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan for his services. He tragically died on December 7, 2016, in a plane crash near Havelian, along with his wife and 45 other passengers, while returning from Chitral to Islamabad.
Before dedicating his life to religious work, Junaid Jamshed had a successful music career. He graduated in mechanical engineering in 1990 and initially worked with the Pakistan Air Force before venturing briefly into aeronautical engineering.

He formed the iconic pop band Vital Signs, serving as lead vocalist. The band achieved massive popularity in the 1990s with hit songs including Aitebaar, Goray Rang Ka Zamana, Dil Dil Pakistan, and Sanwali Saloni. Dil Dil Pakistan was ranked third in a global poll of favorite songs, with votes from 155 countries.
At the peak of his 15-year music career, Junaid left the industry in 2004 to devote himself to Islam. He became a respected religious scholar and Naat Khawan, leaving a lasting impact on Pakistani society.
