Relief Operations Underway in Gilgit-Baltistan After Devastating Floods

Gilgit-Baltistan – Relief and rescue operations are in full swing across various regions of Gilgit-Baltistan following recent torrential rains that triggered devastating floods. Valleys such as Babusar, Thak Niat, Thor, and Danyore have been particularly affected, with significant damage to infrastructure, homes, and roads. Dozens of tourists were stranded, while local residents suffered both personal and financial losses.

Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Haji Gulbar Khan, promptly ordered the launch of emergency rescue and relief operations and personally reviewed the situation in the affected areas. The Pakistan Army, FCNA (Force Command Northern Areas), and provincial agencies worked jointly to evacuate stranded tourists and residents to safer locations. Emergency supplies, including tents, food rations, and medical aid, were provided to the victims.

The Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan is overseeing the rehabilitation process with real-time monitoring. Urgent efforts are being made to restore roads, bridges, and power supplies. The provincial government is also disbursing financial compensation to affected families as per established policy.

While the floods presented a major natural challenge, the crisis also showcased the resilience, unity, and determination of the people and institutions of Gilgit-Baltistan.
