High court halts disqualification move, demands reply from ECP

Peshawar-(Special Correspondent/Web desk)The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday stopped the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from moving forward with disqualification proceedings against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Zartaj Gul. The order came from a two-member bench, comprising Justice Waqar Ahmed and Justice Ijaz Khan, while hearing Gul’s petition. The petitioner’s counsel informed the court that the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Faisalabad had sentenced PTI leader Zartaj Gul to 10 years in prison. Following this decision, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced her disqualification along with several other PTI leaders.
