Rawalpindi DC Orders Detention of 4 PTI Leaders Ahead of Election Commission Protest
RAWALPINDI: Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema has issued orders for the detention of four PTI leaders under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act. A notification from the DC’s office detailed that Shahryar Riaz, Colonel (retired) Ajmal Sabir Raja, Chaudhry Ameer Afzal, and Taimur Masood Akbar will be arrested and detained in Adiala Jail for 15 days. These orders, issued under three MPOs, followed recommendations from the police department and were approved by the District Intelligence Committee in its June 20 meeting.
This action comes as PTI members of parliament are set to march to the Election Commission today, prompting heightened security measures around the commission’s premises.
The detentions reflect the government’s preemptive strategy to manage potential unrest linked to the PTI’s protest activities.
