Sanaullah claims PTI hatching “conspiracy to stage raid”
Hours after Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah revealed that the intelligence agencies had intercepted a call through which it transpired that a fake encounter and rape incident were to be staged on Saturday night by some people belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the party chairman Imran Khan took to Twitter and said that the minister was “so obviously” trying to cover up “horror stories
LAHORE – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has lambasted Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah for trying to terrorise the nation by revealing a sham plot against women to “cover up horror stories about to break in the media.”
In his tweet on Sunday, the former prime minister uploaded a clip from the press conference of Sanaullah in which he talked about intercepting a phone call. The conversation was about an alleged plot to stage rape and blame law enforcement officials for the heinous crime to get global backing for human rights violation.
If there were any doubts about women being mistreated in jails, this press conference from this certified criminal should remove all such doubts.
Imran Khan urged the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday to take suo moto notice of the mistreatment of detained female supporters of his party. He alleged that he has received complaints of sexual assault on these women from various jails, apart from Adiala.
At the beginning of his virtual address, Imran Khan expressed his pride in the substantial participation of women in their rallies.
However, he added that the crackdown on women was to fend them off from politics, which he lamented in a country where half of the populace comprises females.
He is so obviously trying to cover up and preempt the horror stories about to break in the media,
Imran further wrote in his tweet that “if there were any doubts about women being mistreated in jails, this press conference from this certified criminal should removed all such doubts. He is so obviously trying to cover up and preempt the horror stories about to break in the media”.
“Women have never been so mistreated and harassed by the state as they have been by this fascist govt when they were exercising their right to protest peacefully,” the PTI chief further said in his tweet.
It may be recalled that the law enforcers’ “gross misbehavior” with the women family members of PTI leaders has been reported by the media. In one instance, the police raided the house of Usman Dar and mistreated his mother. Police also beat up and dragged women protesters on several occasions.
Imran Khan requested the apex court to play a role for saving democracy amidst crackdown by the incumbent government on PTI.
He said women since May 9 were being treated badly in a way that was not visible in the country’s history adding all this was part of a ‘plan’.
The former PM stressed that women were being oppressed to keep them out of politics adding that would be a great tragedy because they represent half of the Pakistan’s population.
The PTI’s chief highlighted that his party was the only one in which women took part in possession with their families and that was the reason the ruling dispensation was against the PTI.
He said, “An independent judiciary protects fundamental rights and ensures the rule of law which gives rise to real democracy because a free justice system will keep checks on the government powers.”
Talking about his government performance, the PTI’s supremo said he was praised by world leaders referring to former premier Boris Johnson speech at the United Nations – in which the latter praised the Khan’s billions tree tsunami.
Referring to the ongoing PTI exodus, he said the members were quitting the party under duress and they were declared innocent as soon as they leave the party to save their families from the ‘tyranny’ of this regime.
He appealed the Supreme Court to play a role to play for protecting fundamental rights adding if the top court did not make efforts to uphold basic rights, it would be remembered in history negatively.
Mr Khan requested the Supreme Court to intervene and take a suo moto notice to protect the women treated harshly in prisons – who were only doing peaceful protests – claiming that some of them were facing abuse.
The PTI’s chairman demanded a judicial inquiry related to the riots that took place on May 9 adding that those who damaged the Jinnah House should be punished but those who were only doing peaceful protests should be released.
Also, he added there was a mockery of justice in the country mentioning the members who only said they quitting party were freed from all cases faced by them highlighting there was law of jungle in the country.
SANAULLAH PRESS CONFERENCE
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan claimed in a press conference at around midnight on Saturday that the PTI plotted to highlight human rights violations in Pakistan at the global scale by staging a simulated raid at a party worker’s house, involving a rape and casualties caused by gunfire.
The minister said that intelligence agencies intercepted a call in which a conspiracy was being hatched to kill some PTI worker during a staged raid.
The second part of the plot was to commit a rape, he said and added that the plan was to be implemented tonight.
He said the people involved in the conversation were being monitored.
The minister argued that the purpose of his “midnight televised address is to promptly alert the nation about the malicious intentions of the plotters.”
Sanaullah reiterated government’s resolve to bring those responsible for the events on May 9 to justice.
OMAR AYUB, SHAHZAD AKBAR
Meanwhile, Imran also condemned raids on the houses of PTI leaders Omar Ayub and Shahzad Akbar late on Saturday night.
In another tweet, he said: “There were raids at night on Omar Ayub and Shahzad Akbar’s (he’s not even in the country) houses. Today we are living in dark ages..Constitution violated, court decisions openly flouted, houses broken in without warrant and smashed, media muzzled and no one to protect our fundamental rights.”
