Rafa Nadal Announces Retirement from Professional Tennis

Legendary Spaniard to Play Final Tournament at Davis Cup

Spain’s Rafa Nadal, a legend in tennis with 22 Grand Slam singles titles, announced on Thursday that he will retire from professional tennis after the Davis Cup final.

In a heartfelt video, the 38-year-old, who holds a record 14 French Open titles, expressed, “These last few years have been challenging, especially the last two.” He added, “I am thrilled that my final tournament will be the Davis Cup, representing my country. It feels like closing the circle, as one of my earliest joys was the final in Sevilla in 2004.”

The knockout phase of the Davis Cup is scheduled to take place from November 19-24. Nadal’s illustrious career has been plagued by injuries; he missed the 2023 French Open and was eliminated in the first round this year by Germany’s Alexander Zverev. He clinched his last title at Roland Garros in 2022, finishing his time on the Paris clay with an impressive 112-4 win-loss record.
