Punjab to Launch Satellite-Based High-Speed Broadband Services
Satellite-based internet to connect remote schools and hospitals.
Lahore-(News Desk)-On the directions of Chief Minister Punjab, Ms. Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a high-level meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s Office under the chairmanship of Senior Adviser to the Chief Minister, Senator Anusha Rehman, to review plans for providing high-speed broadband services to the people of Punjab.
During the meeting, detailed consultations were held on the provision of ultra-fast broadband connectivity to citizens across Punjab through satellite technology. The meeting was attended by Major General (R) Ali Farhan, Managing Director NTC; Mr. Muhammad Usman Sadiq, Director General Technical SUPARCO; Secretary Information Technology Punjab, and other relevant officials.
It was decided that, in line with the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, all modern technological options—including satellite beam technology—will be utilized to ensure reliable broadband services in remote educational institutions and hospitals across the province. Pakistan possesses its own advanced satellite technology, and it is essential to fully leverage this national capability.

Punjab will become the first province in Pakistan where citizens will benefit from broadband services through Pakistan’s own satellite. The Chief Minister Punjab is utilizing all available resources to fulfill her commitment to empowering skilled youth through the use of high-speed technology and by providing dignified employment opportunities.
SUPARCO and NTC presented a joint proposal to Senior Adviser Senator Anusha Rehman, under which satellite-based broadband services will be extended to remote areas of Punjab in accordance with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. For this purpose, SUPARCO and NTC will establish two demonstration stations in North and South Punjab within the next two weeks. Following successful testing, satellite-based broadband services will be rolled out in remote areas of Punjab within the next six months.
