Maryam Nawaz, Chinese Consul Discuss Economic, Industrial Collaboration

LAHORE: (Web Desk)- The newly appointed Sun Yan met with Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday to discuss deepening cooperation between China and Punjab. Maryam Nawaz congratulated Sun Yan on his appointment and accepted his invitation to visit China, while both sides agreed to further promote strategic collaboration under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and expand economic and cultural exchanges.

During the meeting, officials emphasized bilateral cooperation in trade, infrastructure, energy, information technology, and industrial development. Maryam Nawaz described the Pak-China friendship as exemplary, appreciating China’s support in defense cooperation, regional stability, and development. She highlighted Punjab’s commitment to industrialization, urban management, and creating investment opportunities in sectors such as textiles, agriculture, renewable energy, electric mobility, waste management, and IT.

She also detailed the establishment of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) for Chinese investors, including Allama Iqbal Industrial City and Quaid-e-Azam Business Park in Faisalabad, designed as plug-and-play industrial gateways to facilitate long-term investment, technology transfer, and employment opportunities. Maryam Nawaz assured the safety of Chinese citizens and projects, emphasizing Punjab’s goal of providing a secure and business-friendly environment.

Consul General Sun Yan praised the long-standing strategic partnership between China and Pakistan, calling it a model of trust, mutual respect, and solidarity. He highlighted CPEC as a transformative engine for regional connectivity and lauded Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, stability, and development. Both sides agreed to further strengthen innovation, green development, and advanced manufacturing cooperation, underscoring China’s role as Pakistan’s largest trading partner and a major investor in infrastructure and energy projects.
