Punjab Set for Continued Rainfall Until October 1

Intermittent rainfall has been observed across several areas of Lahore, offering a welcome respite from the ongoing heatwave.

Regions such as Gulberg, Cantt, Saddar, Model Town, and Ferozepur Road experienced both light and heavy showers. The Meteorological Department has indicated that the city will remain overcast throughout the day, with a thunderstorm expected tomorrow.

In the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the rain has also brought significant cooling. The highest rainfall recorded was 43mm at Saidpur Road, and the water level in Nullah Leh has risen to 11 feet at Gawalmandi, raising concerns about possible flooding. The Met Office has forecast additional rain in the coming days, particularly in the northern regions.

Other cities have reported varying levels of rainfall as well. In Jhelum, rain accompanied by gusty winds led to water accumulation in low-lying areas, causing difficulties for traders in the main bazaar. Similarly, Mandi Bahauddin, Faisalabad, and Wazirabad experienced heavy rain, which improved the weather but resulted in power outages in several locations.

Mianwali also saw heavy rain, alleviating the heatwave, although fears of flooding in low-lying areas persist. The Met Department predicts more intermittent rain over the next 12 hours in Narowal, with temperatures expected to continue dropping across the region.

Despite some power outages and waterlogging in certain areas, the rainfall has provided relief to millions suffering from intense heat and high humidity.

Authorities are advising residents to be cautious, especially on slippery roads, and the Motorway Police have issued warnings for careful driving in wet conditions.

**PDMA Issues Alert**
In light of the rainfall in various districts, including Lahore, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert. PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia has instructed deputy commissioners and relevant departments across the province to remain vigilant in addressing the emergency situation.

He noted that district emergency operation centers, including the provincial control room, have been activated, and the ongoing situation following the rain is being monitored closely. Rescue 1122 and other agencies have been directed to keep their equipment and personnel ready for action.

Kathia stated that rain is expected to continue until October 1 and urged citizens to exercise caution, particularly in staying away from electric poles and downed wires.
