Punjab schools to reopen starting April 1, authorities announce

Schools in Punjab to reopen from April 1 as government takes steps to save fuel

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said on Wednesday that schools will reopen across the province from April 1.

He shared the news on X, writing, “Schools will be open from the 1st of April Inshallah.”

Earlier, on March 9, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced that schools would close for two weeks. He also asked office workers to work more from home. These steps were taken to save fuel and reduce government spending. The measures came after oil prices went up because of the Iran war.

Pakistan will slash fuel use across government and shift some public services online, Sharif said, as the Israeli-US war with Iran threatens energy supplies and has already pushed fuel prices in Pakistan sharply higher. Pakistan imports most of its energy.
