Punjab Schools to Reopen on January 19 as Government Rules Out Extension of Winter Vacations
All government and private schools across Punjab will reopen from January 19 (Monday), as the provincial government has decided not to extend winter vacations, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed on Thursday.
The minister said academic activities would resume according to the existing schedule, dismissing speculation about any further extension in school holidays. He explained that the decision was made to maintain continuity in the academic calendar and reduce learning losses among students.
In the meantime, the School Education Department has announced strict measures to improve cleanliness and educational standards in government schools throughout the province. As part of the initiative, the Education Secretary is expected to carry out surprise visits to schools to review conditions on the ground.
Under the new directives, accountability for any deficiencies will lie with the relevant Chief Executive Officers and District Education Authorities. Officials found negligent in maintaining hygiene, discipline or academic performance may face disciplinary action.
The Education Department has warned that there will be no leniency in implementing these orders and has instructed all district education officers to enforce the directives immediately and ensure schools meet the required standards before reopening.
