Punjab Seeks Federal Approval For Rangers Deployment Until October
LAHORE: (Special Reporter) – The Punjab government has formally requested the deployment of Pakistan Rangers in several districts of the province to assist with security arrangements, according to private news channel.
A formal request has been forwarded to the Federal Ministry of Interior seeking the deployment of Rangers contingents in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali.
The proposed deployment will remain in place until October 5, 2026. The move was approved during the 59th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order.
Under the request, three Rangers companies will be deployed in Rawalpindi, while five Rangers wings will be stationed in Attock. Jhelum and Mianwali will each receive one Rangers company.
The deployment is being sought under Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan, Sections 4 and 5 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, and Sections 7(b) and 10 of the Pakistan Rangers Ordinance, 1959.
The Punjab government sent the request to the Interior Ministry following a demand from the Punjab Police for additional security assistance in the four districts.
