CM directs crackdown on lane violations, illegal parking, reckless driving

Lahore-(Special Correspondent/News Desk)-Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting of the Traffic Police authorities for a detailed briefing on traffic-related issues in big cities like Lahore. She expressed concern over disorderly traffic trends in Lahore, and directed the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to improve traffic conditions in Lahore. She also set a target for CTO (Chief Traffic Officer) Lahore to bring about improvement in the city’s traffic flow by strictly ensuring lane and line discipline.

Chief Minister Punjab directed the traffic police authorities to show zero tolerance for violations of lane and line discipline, roadside parking, and one-way traffic. She also directed them to thoroughly educate public about lane and line discipline; besides taking strict measures to curb illegal parking along roadsides. She directed the Traffic Police officials to monitor lane and line violations using cameras installed on mobile vehicles, and took a decision to turn major roads in Lahore into traffic-friendly model roads; besides impounding at police station for 03 days all motorcycles driven in a zigzag manner. She highlighted that it is necessary to prevent underage driving on both local and major roads to ensure compliance of traffic rules. Relevant authorities briefed her that Traffic Police has issued over 500,000 tickets and impounded more than 100,000 vehicles in 06 months.
