Punjab Imposes Section 144 in Mianwali Over Security Threats

The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 in Mianwali for seven days due to growing security concerns.

A notification from the Punjab Home Department confirmed that the ban covers all political gatherings, including sit-ins, rallies, protests, and related activities, effective from October 1 to October 7.

The decision was based on recommendations from the district administration and included the deployment of Rangers to ensure public safety.

Two companies of Rangers were stationed in Mianwali from October 1 to October 3 to maintain security.

As per the notification, the enforcement of Section 144 is intended to uphold law and order, as well as protect lives and property, with public gatherings posing potential targets for terrorist attacks.

The Punjab Home Department also directed officials to raise public awareness regarding these restrictions.

This development comes amid plans by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, to hold protests in Mianwali, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur, heightening concerns over public safety during this period.
