Punjab Government To Launch Province’s First Airline

Punjab Airline Set For April Launch With Domestic Operations

LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has decided to launch its first official provincial carrier, Punjab Airline, with operations expected to begin in April, according to sources.

In the initial phase, the airline will acquire seven aircraft and operate exclusively on domestic routes for the first two years. Plans are in place to expand to international destinations at a later stage.

Sources say Punjab Airline will function as a fully provincial commercial carrier. In a significant shift, the government has also decided to make the Chief Minister’s official travel financially sustainable. Instead of purchasing a separate aircraft, the Chief Minister will use Punjab Airline planes for official trips.

Whenever the Chief Minister travels on official duty, the government will formally pay the fare, ensuring transparency and commercial viability. There is also a proposal to integrate the existing official helicopter into the airline’s operations.

Officials emphasize that the initiative aims to avoid placing any additional burden on the national exchequer. Both newly acquired and existing aircraft will operate on commercial grounds, with the objective of generating revenue and ensuring long-term profitability.
