Punjab Government Approves Sikh Marriage Act: Uzma Bukhari

LAHORE: Provincial Information Minister Uzma Bukhari, alongside Minister of Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora, announced the approval of the Sikh Marriage Act by the Punjab government. The legislation, effective immediately, marks a significant step towards safeguarding minority rights in the province.
Addressing a press conference at DGPR, Uzma Bukhari emphasized Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s commitment to prioritizing religious minorities. She highlighted recent initiatives including the reduction in flour prices and the approval of a Rs. 400 billion Kisan Card, aimed at easing economic burdens for the public.
Furthermore, Bukhari unveiled the “Apna Ghar Apna Chhat” project, slated to commence on August 14, which aims to construct one lakh houses across Punjab. She also announced the distribution of electric bikes to eligible female applicants and improvements in overseas Pakistanis’ facilities.

Minister of Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora underscored Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s dedication to minority welfare, citing recent grants to 10,000 families during Easter and efforts to preserve Sikh cultural heritage. He noted that the Sikh Marriage Act’s enactment reflects Pakistan’s commitment to minority-friendly policies, recognized even by Indian media.
