Punjab Freezes TLP Assets Worth Rs 23.4 Billion, Cracks Down on Extremist Networks

LAHORE: The Punjab government has taken sweeping action against the banned extremist group Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), freezing assets worth Rs 23.4 billion and shutting down 92 bank and digital accounts, including JazzCash. Nine financiers of the group have also been booked under relevant laws.

Following her return from Brazil, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif ordered heightened security measures across the province. The government has dismantled the financial and operational infrastructure of extremists and terrorists, seizing advanced weapons, thousands of bullets, bulletproof jackets, and other military equipment from TLP hideouts. Authorities have also blocked funding used to spread hate under the guise of protests.

An extraordinary meeting on law and order chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted the success of Punjab’s actions and called on the federal government to replicate similar measures in other provinces. The Chief Minister also instructed that combing operations continue without interruption.

Meanwhile, over 50,000 imams in Punjab have voluntarily registered themselves as part of the government’s program to strengthen peace and law enforcement cooperation, with 82 percent of registrations now complete. Five major madrasa federations have agreed to support the initiative. CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized respecting imams, stating they lead prayers and should not be pressured for donations.

Strict measures against wall chalking have been ordered across Punjab, with all deputy commissioners directed to ensure permanent enforcement. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to rejecting extremism and sectarian incitement. Standard operating procedures regarding weapons have been clarified, and surveillance measures are being enhanced to maintain security across the province.
