Punjab Drug Control Issues Alert Over Fake Medicines

Non-standard medicines for anemia and neurological disorders were also found to be circulating.

Lahore: The Punjab Directorate of Drug Control has raised alarms over more than 15 medicines after discovering the sale of counterfeit drugs in medical stores across the province.

According to the Directorate, the affected medicines include treatments for wounds, ear infections, post-surgical pain relief, asthma, nasal allergies, birth control, high blood pressure, and heart conditions. Non-standard medicines for anemia and neurological disorders were also found to be circulating.

The alert also highlighted fake antibiotics, blood medicines, and antibiotic injections intended for animals. Additionally, cough remedies, anti-itch medicines, and drugs for increasing heart rate were reported to be substandard.

The Directorate of Drug Control has instructed that the affected batches be immediately recalled and has directed medical stores and healthcare staff to stop using these specific medicines with immediate effect.

This action underscores the authorities’ efforts to ensure public safety and prevent the circulation of fake or low-quality medicines in Punjab.
