Punjab Counter Terrorism Department Requests Funds Rs 1.42 billion for Modernization Efforts
LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab has submitted a request to the provincial government for Rs 1.42 billion in funds to acquire operational equipment for counter-terrorism operations and improve law and order enforcement.
The department’s plan emphasizes modernization as a key strategy in effectively combating terrorism. The requested funds would be used to procure modern equipment and technology specifically designed for counter-terrorism activities.
CTD’s budget breakdown outlines Rs 35.45 million allocated for transportation and Rs 1.27 million for modern software acquisition. The total requested expenditure reaches Rs 3.812 billion, which is intended to significantly strengthen the department’s capabilities.
However, following a meeting between the Additional Inspector General of CTD (IGC) and the Finance Secretary, the requested budget was revised. According to official documents, the approved allocation for CTD stands at Rs 2.027 billion.

The revised budget allocates Rs 908.438 million for the purchase of modern equipment and weaponry, Rs 981.724 million for acquiring vehicles, and Rs 500 million for other departmental expenses.
Notably, CTD’s request for a luxury Land Cruiser vehicle, valued at Rs 12 crore, was rejected.
The approval for the revised budget came after the Home Department’s summary was presented to and accepted by the Cabinet Committee on Finance.
