Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Launches Province’s First Electric Bus Project

ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the province’s first electric bus service on Wednesday, marking a significant step towards a modern and eco-friendly transport system.

During the inauguration ceremony in Lahore, the Chief Minister highlighted the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s commitment to development, contrasting it with previous governments plagued by political instability and corruption.

“This is Punjab on the path of innovation,” she stated, adding that the dream of a green and clean province was now becoming a reality.

The newly launched electric bus service in Lahore will have an affordable fare structure, with a starting fare of Rs20 and a maximum fare of Rs35. Additionally, the government has announced free travel for students, senior citizens, and people with disabilities.

500 Electric Buses by August

Maryam Nawaz announced that 27 electric buses would begin operations in Lahore starting Tuesday, with plans to introduce 500 more buses across Punjab by August. She also revealed that the provincial government was manufacturing electric buses in Faisalabad and had invited Chinese companies to invest in the sector.

The CM emphasized that the initiative aimed to reduce pollution and provide affordable public transport. She also noted that the fare structure in Punjab was lower compared to other provinces.

“All buses are equipped with free Wi-Fi, mobile charging facilities, and CCTV cameras to enhance security, particularly for women,” she added.

Maryam Nawaz also pointed out that, unlike other provinces, she had never requested projects from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, showcasing the PML-N’s dedication to Punjab’s growth.
