Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has requested proposals for the establishment, design, and overall plan for the new ‘Punjab Tourism Authority.’
She has instructed the creation of policy measures to enhance tourism in the province and has set up a special 25-member committee for this initiative.
Senator Pervez Rasheed, a senior leader from the Pakistan Muslim League (N), will serve as a special member of the steering committee, while senior provincial minister Marriyum Aurangzeb will act as the committee’s convener.
The committee will also include provincial ministers responsible for information, minorities, transport, and communication.
Among the committee members are National Assembly member Afzal Khokhar, senior anchorperson Iftikhar Ahmad, and various secretaries from different ministries.
The committee has been tasked with preparing proposals within 15 days to present to the Chief Minister, aiming to develop a comprehensive tourism plan for Punjab.
This initiative seeks to promote 8 to 10 key tourist destinations in the province that hold religious, cultural, historical, and business significance.
The government intends to boost both foreign and religious tourism in the region.
A complete restructuring of Punjab’s existing tourism framework will be undertaken, which includes upgrading the system and overhauling the archaeology, museums, and transport sectors.
Additionally, the development of a modern technology application and a tourism portal has been initiated.
