Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Forms Steering Committee to Rejuvenate Film Industry

Lahore-(Staff Reporter): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has set up a 29-member steering committee aimed at revitalizing the film industry and resolving issues faced by artists, marking an effort to reestablish Lahore as Pakistan’s film industry center.

Senior PML-N leader Senator Pervaiz Rashid will represent the chief minister on this committee, with Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb designated as its convener. The committee also includes Information Minister Azma Bokhari, provincial secretaries from information, tourism, and finance, and notable members from the film and arts sectors.

The committee’s main tasks include creating a roadmap for establishing a state-of-the-art film city, a modern film academy, an advanced film lab, and improving film industry infrastructure. It will work to establish the Punjab Film Fund and develop proposals and policies aimed at promoting the film industry within the province.

Maryam Nawaz has instructed the committee to present recommendations within 15 days, with a focus on initiatives to enhance film and arts in Punjab.

A central objective of the committee will be to introduce an artist welfare system that provides health insurance, social security, and welfare benefits to artists, along with a housing society plan for film industry professionals.

Beyond infrastructure, the committee will design plans for centers of artistic expression and initiatives to promote art and support new talent. It will also draft policies to increase cinema houses across Punjab, offering incentives to investors interested in the film industry.

The chief minister’s principal secretary formally announced the formation of this steering committee through an official notification.
