Punjab Cabinet approves salary hike for MPAs and Speaker
This move is expected to be formally endorsed by the provincial assembly in the coming days.
Lahore: The Punjab Cabinet has approved a significant increase in the salaries of members of the provincial assembly (MPAs) and key officials, with the proposal now set to be presented to the Punjab Assembly for final approval.
Sources within the provincial government confirmed that, under the proposed legislation, the salary of an MPA will rise to Rs. 500,000 per month. The Speaker of the Punjab Assembly will receive Rs. 1 million, while the Deputy Speaker’s salary will increase to Rs. 800,000.
The bill also includes revised salaries for other important positions:
- Special assistants and advisors: Rs. 700,000
- Parliamentary secretaries: Rs. 600,000
- Provincial ministers: Rs. 1 million
The salary increase proposal was introduced as an ex-agenda item during the last cabinet meeting and was unanimously approved. Upon passage by the Punjab Assembly, an official notification will be issued to implement the changes.
