Punjab Announces New Summer Vacation Policy for Teaching Faculty

Faculty Duty Requirements and Leave Management for Summer Vacation

Lahore: The Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, Punjab, has introduced a new summer vacation policy for teaching faculty in government medical colleges and affiliated hospitals, set to take effect from August 1, 2025.

The official notification emphasizes that public health services must continue uninterrupted, noting the crucial role tertiary care hospitals attached to medical colleges play in patient treatment and care. The policy aims to strike a balance between faculty academic duties and their medical responsibilities, ensuring that leave does not disrupt healthcare delivery.

Under the new guidelines, summer vacation will be limited to three weeks and deducted from the faculty’s earned leave. The policy applies to Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Senior Registrars, and Demonstrators across all government medical colleges and teaching hospitals in Punjab.

To maintain essential services during the vacation period, 67% of clinical faculty and 50% of basic science faculty will be required to remain on duty. Each institution must establish a Leave Management Committee, led by the Principal, CEO/COO/MD, Medical Superintendent, and senior department heads. These committees are responsible for preparing and submitting the final leave roster to the department by April 30 annually.
