Punjab Announces Early Summer Vacations Amid Intense Heatwave

Sindh Sticks to June 1 Start for Summer Vacations

LahoreIn response to the worsening heatwave conditions across the province, Punjab’s Education Minister, Rana Sikandar Hayat, announced that summer vacations for all educational institutions in the province will begin earlier than planned, starting from May 28.

Highlighting the government’s concern for student and staff safety, the minister emphasized that the early announcement is part of broader measures to mitigate risks posed by the extreme weather. “Protecting our children is our top priority,” Hayat stated. He added that relevant departments have already issued detailed heatwave safety guidelines for the public.

To provide immediate relief, a change in school timings has also been implemented, effective May 21. Schools will now operate from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, ensuring students leave before the peak heat hours.

Announcing the new schedule via social media platform X, the minister wrote: “New School Timings = 7:30 am to 11:30 am. School Holidays Start from the 28th of May (28th will be a Holiday).”

Meanwhile, in Sindh, the provincial Education Department has adhered to its previously set academic calendar. Summer vacations for both public and private schools will begin on June 1 and last until July 31, with classes resuming from August 1, 2025. A department official dismissed speculation about an early break, reaffirming that the schedule remains unchanged.
