PTI’s Sher Afzal Marwat hints at protest in January

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat has hinted at organizing another protest in January, as the party recovers from the recent violence during its Islamabad protest, which resulted in 12 deaths. Speaking via video link at private news channel, Marwat stated that PTI plans to resume protests in January after recovering from the aftermath of the November demonstrations.

The protest, which began on November 24, was aimed at securing the release of party members and restoring democracy but was called off after three days. PTI claims that 12 of its supporters were killed in the violence that occurred on the final day of the protest.

Marwat revealed that PTI will file criminal complaints under Pakistan’s Penal Code against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and Islamabad police officers, accusing them of responsibility for the deaths. The party also plans to pursue legal action for the injured.

The PTI leader also accused the military of involvement in the violence, noting that professional personnel with sniper rifles were likely behind the shootings. Marwat further criticized attempts to create divisions within the party and emphasized that PTI would consider engaging in dialogue if the government compensates the families of the slain workers and apologizes for the incident.
