PTI Seeks Time for Mobilisation Ahead of Planned Street Protests
PTI Signals Return to Street Politics, Mulls Anti-Government Protests
ISLAMABAD: Amid a lingering political stalemate, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has hinted at launching an anti-government protest movement, stating that the party is currently focused on mobilizing its base before taking to the streets.
PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram, while addressing party workers and the media on Monday, firmly denied any backdoor negotiations with the ruling coalition or the military establishment. He emphasized that PTI remains committed to street-level political engagement and is actively assessing the political environment before making a formal move.
“The call for protest will be made in due course, but effective mobilisation is key,” Akram said, indicating that groundwork for the campaign is underway. He confirmed that the party has delegated special tasks to its provincial leadership to organize supporters in anticipation of the protest drive.
According to party sources, PTI’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, led by President Junaid Akbar, has already initiated coordination efforts with leaders in other provinces. A formal announcement regarding the protest schedule is expected soon.
No Backdoor Talks, No Alliance Yet
Akram categorically denied speculations about any behind-the-scenes talks with the government or the establishment. He added that political momentum has slowed following the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which has affected dialogue across the political spectrum.
At the same time, PTI’s efforts to forge a broader opposition alliance have hit a roadblock. Insiders revealed that multiple meetings with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) have so far failed to yield a breakthrough. The JUI-F leadership, citing internal consultations, has yet to provide a definitive response on joining an opposition bloc.

“JUI-F appears reluctant to join a grand opposition alliance at this stage,” Akram remarked, hinting at the possibility of PTI moving ahead independently if needed.
Public Contact Drive Imminent
In light of the current uncertainty, PTI is set to ramp up public engagement. Party officials confirmed that a nationwide contact campaign and a schedule for protest rallies are likely to be announced in the coming days.
As the political temperature rises, PTI’s return to street politics could signal a new phase in the country’s evolving political landscape.
