PTI Seeks Opposition Support to Ease Tensions

May leaders upset over irresponsible role of PTI's social media.

Islamabad – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is in talks with its opposition allies to explore various options, including the possibility of easing confrontational politics with the military establishment, in an effort to create political space for the party and secure relief for its jailed founder, Imran Khan.

Sources close to the development have revealed that some opposition leaders, including Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) head Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai, have been approached by PTI to help convince Imran Khan to calm down, moderate his stance, and cease the offensive rhetoric on social media. The party is also seeking support from Khan to stand united with the authorities in the fight against terrorism.

According to sources, Abbas is planning to meet with Imran Khan in Adiala jail, as he was urged by senior PTI figures, including Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, to help cool down tensions and facilitate the party’s return to normal politics. Barrister Gohar, when contacted, confirmed that PTI is discussing various options with its allies but declined to share details of the ongoing discussions with the media.

In a recent development, a YouTuber with close ties to PTI claimed that Barrister Gohar had personally asked Abbas and Achakzai for assistance in lowering the temperature within the party, but the alliance leaders reportedly did not agree to the request.

While PTI has announced plans to launch a new phase of protest against the government after Eid, some party leaders are urging against a repeat of the confrontational politics that has caused significant harm to both the party and its leadership, including Imran Khan himself.

PTI insiders have indicated that if Imran Khan refrains from making harsh statements and the party’s social media is curbed from escalating tensions with the military establishment, the political environment could improve for the party. As the country faces an increasing wave of terrorism, senior PTI leaders believe it is crucial for the party to show solidarity with the state and its institutions in addressing these challenges.

The role of PTI’s social media has been a source of concern for many within the party, with several leaders believing that only Imran Khan has the influence to control and redirect the party’s online narrative, which has contributed to the rising tension.
