PTI protesters armed with police-grade weapons: CM Punjab

Maryam Nawaz assured the public that her government would take swift and strict action against the perpetrators.

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has condemned the violent attacks on police personnel by protesters, revealing that many of the demonstrators were armed with weapons typically used by law enforcement agencies. In a statement issued earlier today, she expressed her profound sorrow over the injuries sustained by over 20 police officers during clashes in various locations across the province.

According to Maryam Nawaz, the attacks involved targeted shootings at police posts and security checkpoints, highlighting the extreme nature of the violence. One police constable was critically injured during the confrontations, underscoring the severity of the incidents. The chief minister expressed her regret that such violence had been unleashed on those tasked with maintaining law and order.

“The protesters were armed with short machine guns, tear gas, knives, and even masks—equipment typically associated with law enforcement,” Maryam Nawaz revealed. “The fact that these weapons were in the hands of protesters is deeply alarming and warrants an immediate investigation.”

The violence was reported in multiple locations, including Ghazi Barutha, Mianwali, and the Hazara Motorway, where law enforcement officers were engaged in intense clashes with the demonstrators. The chief minister emphasized that the attacks were not only unlawful but were also aimed at destabilizing the peace in the region.

Maryam Nawaz assured the public that her government would take swift and strict action against the perpetrators. “Such actions are completely unacceptable, and those responsible will face the full force of the law,” she stated.

Authorities have ramped up efforts to investigate the origin of the weapons used by the protesters and restore order in the affected areas. Security forces are also on high alert to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of both the police and civilians.

23 cops injured in clash with PTI workers

At least 23 police personnel sustained injuries during a violent altercation with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers on the Ghazi Bharutha Bridge, police officials reported on Saturday.

According to law enforcement authorities, the injured personnel were immediately transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. The situation escalated when workers in a convoy, reportedly accompanying PTI leader and former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, allegedly attacked police personnel during the night.

The police stated that the altercation occurred as the convoy attempted to cross the bridge despite security restrictions. Additional reinforcements have been deployed to manage the situation and restore order.

Further investigations are underway to identify the individuals responsible for instigating the violence. Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken against those involved.
