PTI Protest Causes Flight Delays at Islamabad Airport

Authorities in Islamabad have significantly heightened security measures as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prepares for its protest rally at D-Chowk.

Simultaneously, numerous flights at Islamabad International Airport have been delayed, with airport officials advising passengers to arrive earlier than usual due to potential disruptions.

In light of the PTI’s planned protests, major highways and roads leading into Islamabad have been blocked with containers. The Red Zone, where key government buildings are located, has been sealed off, and a heavy police presence has been deployed at strategic locations to prevent demonstrators from entering the area.

The entire traffic flow in Islamabad and Rawalpindi has been severely affected, bringing movement to a near standstill. Police in Islamabad have stationed officers at all entry points, with special teams formed to make arrests if necessary. A ban on motorcycle pillion riding has also been enforced in both cities, although exemptions apply for women, children, and elderly passengers.

The tightened security has impacted operations at Islamabad International Airport, resulting in multiple flight delays. Travelers have been advised to reach the airport well in advance due to the potential delays caused by roadblocks.

In addition, metro bus services between Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been suspended, leaving many commuters without public transportation. While schools remain open, many private businesses have implemented work-from-home policies to help employees avoid the traffic chaos.
