PTI Leaders Shoiab Shaheen Gohar, Sher Afzal Marwat Taken into Custody
Islamabad police take action following PTI rally on Sunday
Islamabad Police Arrest PTI Lawmakers Amid Crackdown Sher Afzal Marwat and Shoaib Shaheen on Monday, following the National Assembly session. The arrests came after the capital city administration decided to take action against the party for violating rules during a public gathering. Marwat chanted “We are standing with Imran” before being taken into custody. Live footage showed police dragging him to a vehicle as his supporters resisted the arrest.
The arrests were made under warrants issued for their alleged involvement in the Sanjgani rally. Sources indicate that more PTI leaders will be arrested, and personnel will be deployed inside and outside Parliament. Zartaj Gul evaded police and exited the premises, while Aamir Dogar condemned the potential arrests, stating it would be an affront to the National Assembly.
The government has filed three cases against PTI leadership for violating agreements related to the September 8 rally, including failing to adhere to the specified time, violating the designated route, and stone-pelting incidents.
The Red Zone was abruptly sealed, causing significant inconvenience and traffic jams. A heavy police presence was deployed in front of the Parliament House, with orders received for the arrest of PTI parliamentarians.
