PTI Forms New 23-Member Political Committee Amid Legal Controversy
PTI’s New Committee Deemed Unconstitutional, Says Former Member Babar
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has reconstituted its political committee, now comprising 23 members, including representatives from Tehreek Tahaffuz Aiyeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP). The notification, signed by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and Additional Secretary General Firdous Shamim Naqvi, states that the committee will take effect immediately.
The new committee will serve as the apex decision-making body for all party functions, its wings, and other committees, replacing the previous 40-member panel. It will also set policies for PTI parliamentary parties in the National Assembly, Senate, provincial assemblies, and assemblies of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir.
Key members include PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan, Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, Shamim Naqvi, Sheikh Waqas Akram, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, and Mahmood Khan Achakzai, among others.
However, former PTI information secretary and founding member Akbar S. Babar has condemned the formation, calling it “unconstitutional, illegal, and a blatant violation of the Supreme Court’s decision.” Babar cited a Supreme Court ruling that prohibits convicted individuals from participating in politics and alleged that the new committee was formed under the instructions of PTI’s convicted founding chairman.

He said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has already stated that no PTI official or organization currently has legal status. Babar has urged the ECP to stop the illegal use of party resources, freeze PTI bank accounts, and take decisive action until legal party elections are held.
This development adds to the ongoing legal and political challenges facing PTI as the party reorganizes its internal structure.
