PTI Delegation Raises Concerns in Uncommon Meeting with CJP Yahya Afridi

The CJP also took the opportunity to share a 10-point agenda on judicial reforms, according to the delegation.

ISLAMABAD – In an unprecedented meeting, a delegation of five opposition leaders from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) met with Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi to voice their concerns regarding ongoing legal and political challenges facing the party.

Sources disclosed that the meeting, held at the residence of CJP Yahya Afridi, lasted for about an hour. During this time, PTI leaders presented a series of grievances, particularly regarding cases involving their party leaders.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, addressing the media afterward, revealed that they had informed the chief justice about the government’s failure to comply with court orders and expressed concerns about restrictions imposed on meetings between PTI founder and his wife.

The CJP also took the opportunity to share a 10-point agenda on judicial reforms, according to the delegation.

Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, part of the PTI delegation, mentioned that the meeting included discussions around several critical issues, such as FIRs filed against PTI workers and accusations of state repression.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja highlighted the human rights violations occurring within the country, as well as the alleged misuse of the judicial system. He warned that failure to address these issues would likely lead to public protests.

PTI’s Call for Action on the 26th Constitutional Amendment

In addition to the meeting with the CJP, the PTI leaders also urged the judiciary to expedite the hearing of their cases related to the 26th Constitutional Amendment. Speaking at a press conference, Barrister Gohar reiterated that the amendment was passed by a government with a “fake mandate.”

The PTI Chairman called on all judges to hear and pass a ruling on the matter swiftly. He also emphasized the constitutional duty of the Election Commission to protect PTI’s mandate, signaling the party’s intention to reclaim it if necessary.

PTI founder has reportedly sent a letter to the army chief urging unity between the military and the public. Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Omar Ayub criticized the judiciary for not upholding constitutional supremacy, while accusing the government of unjustly imprisoning PTI leaders.

Shibli Fraz of PTI added that Pakistan could never achieve political stability without free and fair elections.
