PTI Chairman Barrister Gauhar Optimistic About Seat Allocation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gauhar expressed optimism about the allocation of seats, stating confidence in a favorable outcome.

Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court on Monday, Gauhar discussed the implications of independent candidates on seat distribution. “If independent candidates are excluded, how will the seats be allocated? If they are included, what will be the proportion?” he questioned, adding that the current case proceedings and judges’ observations bolster their confidence in securing the seats.

He highlighted that the seats in question include 67 reserved for women and 10 for non-Muslims, totaling 78. These seats were allocated by the Election Commission for PTI’s bat symbol candidate Sunni Ittehad Council. The Commission had stipulated that the Sunni Ittehad Council must participate in the elections and submit a list, failing which they would forfeit the seats.

Barrister Gauhar emphasized that according to Articles 51 and 106 of the Constitution, the seats should correspond to the party’s vote share. He remarked, “The spirit of the Constitution is clear: the party that gets the votes should get the seats.” Despite the Supreme Court’s decision and the allocation of free election symbols on the day of symbol allotment, Gauhar affirmed PTI’s commitment to securing their rightful seats.
