PTI announces candidates for Peshawar

Sher Afzal Marwat fails to secure PTI ticket in Peshawar
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has declared its candidates for the upcoming elections in Peshawar, focusing particularly on Khyber district.
In a statement released today, PTI disclosed that Iqbal Afridi has been nominated as the party’s candidate for the National Assembly seat NA-27 from Khyber district.
Additionally, Allama Adnan Qadri has been selected as the PTI candidate for the Provincial Assembly seat PK-69.
Further allocations include Sohail Afridi for the Provincial Assembly seat PK-70 and Abdul Ghani Afridi for PK-71.
This move by PTI aims to strengthen its presence in the region and garner support for the upcoming elections.
While,
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) while announcing its candidates for national and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies’ seats from Peshawar said it will not issue a ticket to Sher Afzal Marwat in Peshawar.
The PTI has fielded Shandana Gulzar from the NA-30 constituency. Sajid Nawaz, Arbab Amir, Arbab Sher Ali and Asif Khan will be PTI candidates from different constituencies in Peshawar.
On December 27, 2023, PTI leader from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Taimur Khan Jhagra raised objections over Marwat’s contesting polls from Peshawar after the latter had submitted his nomination papers for the NA-32 constituency in Peshawar.
“It would be better if a leader from Peshawar contested from that constituency,” Jhagra had said.
Meanwhile Sher Afzal Marwat had said that he had no interest in contesting the polls. “The PTI founder has directed me to contest elections from Lakki Marwat,” he had added.
In a tweet on X he said, he had been granted ticket from NA-41 Lakki Marwat which is his native constituency and he will win this seat for his party.

On the flip side, Mehmood Jan, Taimur Jhagra, Kamran Bangash, Arbab Jehandad, Fazal Elahi, Hamidul Haq, Asim Khan, Mina Khan, Ali Zaman, Malik Shahab, Samiullah, Sher Ali Afridi and Noreen Arif will get PTI tickets for provincial seats in Peshawar, the party said.
On January 10, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) restored the PTI’s electoral symbol ‘bat’ paving the way for the party to head to polls with its iconic symbol in February 8 polls.
