PTA Allows Cable Operators to Offer Internet Services, Licenses Issued

According to PTA, interested operators can apply through the PTA online portal.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced the issuance of licenses to cable operators, allowing them to provide internet services to their customers, according to media reports.

PTA Chairman Major General (Retd) Hafeez Ur Rehman conveyed the decision to Chairman Cable Operators Association Khalid Arain during a telephone conversation, confirming that the authority has fulfilled its earlier commitment to the association.

Welcoming the move, Khalid Arain thanked the PTA and said that cable operators will now be able to offer internet facilities after obtaining the required license. He added that the initiative will not only improve service delivery but also help create sustainable employment opportunities within the sector.

According to PTA, interested operators can apply through the PTA online portal. Cable operators already holding licenses from PEMRA will be given priority in the licensing process.

The licenses will be issued as class licenses with a validity of ten years. Applicants will be required to pay a one-time initial fee of Rs300,000.

The PTA said the decision is part of its broader strategy to expand internet access across the country and enable cable operators to diversify their services, contributing to improved connectivity nationwide.
