PSL Set for Major Expansion: Two New Franchises to Join After 2025 Season

PSL Focuses on Maintaining High Standards with Expansion

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is gearing up for its most significant expansion yet, with plans to introduce two new franchises following the conclusion of the 2025 season, taking the number of participating teams from six to eight.

PSL Chief Executive Officer, Salman Naseer, confirmed the news, highlighting the league’s vision for sustained growth while maintaining a competitive balance. He emphasized the importance of keeping the event fresh and exciting for fans.

“We might get two more teams by the end of this year. There’s always something happening that re-energizes the concept, the event, and the passion of the fans,” said Naseer.

Initially held in the UAE due to security concerns, the PSL has grown to become a fully home-based tournament, marking a significant milestone for Pakistan’s cricketing landscape. Naseer recalled, “We started at a time when no cricket was happening in Pakistan. The challenge was to bring it back.”

With the planned expansion, PSL management is focused on ensuring the league’s high standards are maintained. Naseer further added, “The balance between bat and ball is one of the hallmarks of PSL, and with expansion, we need to ensure that quality remains intact.”
