PSB Forms Inquiry Committee to Probe Irregularities, Athlete Disappearance at FISU Games 2025

The PSB emphasized that the committee must submit its findings within 15 days of the issuance of the notification.

Islamabad – The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has constituted a three-member inquiry committee to investigate serious irregularities, including the reported disappearance of two athletes, during Pakistan’s participation in the 2025 FISU World University Games held in Germany.

According to a spokesperson for PSB, the committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Director PSB Lahore, Noor-us-Sabah. Other members of the committee include Nasrullah Rana and Saif ur Rehman Rao. The committee has been tasked to submit a comprehensive report within 15 days.

The official notification, issued with the approval of the Director General of PSB, stated that multiple discrepancies have come to light regarding the selection of team officials, discipline, logistical arrangements, and the disappearance of two athletes representing Pakistan.

Except for one coach, all team officials were reportedly affiliated with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) or various universities, raising concerns over transparency in the selection process. According to the HEC, two student-athletes went missing during the event.

The notification also mentioned that the women’s 4x400m relay team was disqualified from the competition, and a judo athlete competed without proper gear and in the absence of a coach.

The inquiry committee has been assigned several Terms of Reference (ToRs), including:

  • Reviewing the selection process and transparency in the nomination of athletes and officials by HEC.

  • Evaluating whether the responsibilities and selection of each official adhered to the established regulations.

  • Investigating the circumstances, timeline, and any negligence leading to the disappearance of the two athletes.

  • Determining the reasons behind the women’s relay team’s disqualification and identifying any shortcomings in preparation or oversight.

  • Establishing why the judo athlete was not provided the appropriate competition uniform and why she competed without a coach.

The committee has also been mandated to identify those responsible for mismanagement, negligence, or dereliction of duty and to recommend appropriate action against them.
